The team will investigate cutting-edge neuromorphic designs, components, and devices that may exhibit a performance edge over traditional computing systems such as CPUs, GPUs. Our focus will be on areas where neuromorphic systems show clear benefits, including combinatorial optimization, stochastic simulations, AI-driven tasks, and control issues in dynamic systems. Participants will examine the structure of existing neuromorphic technology and delve into concepts like in-memory computation, and non-synchronous processing. Additionally, they will assess how optimization strategies and inherent dynamics can be effectively integrated into neuromorphic hardware, circuits, and systems. Through open-source PDK kits for IC design (SkyWater 130nm), behavioural and circuit simulations, as well as FPGA emulation, the group will benchmark the efficacy of these neuromorphic solutions against the latest industry standards.
